Charley’s Angels COUCH to 5K
September 24, 2019 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Designed and intended for complete beginners, those who might think ‘run, ME?’ Yes, YOU.
This successful course uses the acclaimed Jeff Galloway ‘run, walk, run’ method – regular, timed intervals of running and walking. We do not run like Mo Farah or Usain Bolt! The intention is to encourage and support new runners to be able to complete a 5k in 8 – 10 weeks; we use the very welcoming and supportive Carrickfergus parkrun for our final session. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6pm for the duration of the course.
Delivered by experienced runners/coaches, we will take you from the sofa, to your first 5k, without pressure, supported by other runners who have completed the same course and are regular runners using the same method – right up to ultra marathon! There is no expectation to run fast, quite the opposite – we do not sprint!
Who is this for? Complete beginners, who would like to get fit, lose weight, find a bit of ‘me’ time in good company. Anyone aged 16 and above is welcome to join us (unfortunately, folks younger than 16 are still in active growth stages and need specific training). If you think you cannot do this because you consider yourself (or have been told) you might be ‘overweight’, come and give it a go – we believe you will be surprised! GPs now recommend courses such as this for physical, mental, emotional health and weight loss.
How much does it cost? NOTHING. The course is free to all. Our intention is to encourage and support beginners to start running, believe you can, and keep going – whilst enjoying the numerous benefits of better health, emotional well being, and being part of a welcoming social group.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Participants must be 16 or over – there is no upper age limit. ID is not required.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is free parking at each venue we use; we will advise of the venue for each session in advance. The course begins at Carrickfergus Amphitheatre, and utilises routes in and around Carrickfergus, with occasional changes of venue to Loughshore park, Jordanstown. Sessions start at 6 pm and last up to an hour or so.
What can I bring into the event?
Yourself! You will need to wear comfortable clothing, suited to the weather; we recommend light, easy to move in clothing – you will get quite warm, but will need something to keep warm at the end of the session. You will need a pair of trainers/running shoes, but please don’t spend a lot of money on these; we recommend Lidl, Decathlon (Holywood Exhange) and Sports Direct as options.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
